‘They never gave up.’ Kings lacrosse books berth in 1st-ever regional championship game

In the Division I regional semifinal between Kings and Milford, King head girls lacrosse coach Brian Schuckman understood the importance of possessions in the game. With the score tied 7-7 and just over three minutes remaining in regulation, Schuckman called a timeout with a specific strategy in mind.

During the timeout, Schuckman advised his team to move the ball without rushing and to use the clock to their advantage. The goal was to create an opportunity while minimizing the time left for Milford to respond.

Executing the game plan, Kings effectively moved the ball and ate away at the game clock for over three minutes. Finally, with less than half a minute remaining, a shooting space violation on Milford presented Kings with a golden opportunity to take the lead.

Senior Kenzie Beck, who had an impressive record of 69 goals this season, positioned herself near the net. With a quick juke to evade a defender, Beck utilized her left hand and scored the go-ahead goal with only 26 seconds left on the clock.
In a crucial moment, senior player Sami Drew, who was ranked fourth in the ECC for goals, skillfully managed the subsequent draw. This strategic move enabled Kings to effectively control the remaining time on the clock, ultimately leading to their hard-fought 8-7 triumph.
