The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is alerting consumers about a mushroom-infused chocolate bar that has caused some individuals to be hospitalized.
On June 7, the FDA issued a warning about Diamond Shruumz “microdosing” chocolate bars. These bars contain a unique blend of nootropics, which are substances believed to enhance cognitive function, and are advertised to provide a relaxed and euphoric experience without the use of psilocybin, a hallucinogenic compound found in certain mushrooms.
The FDA, in collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), America’s Poison Centers, and local authorities, is currently investigating a series of illnesses associated with the consumption of Diamond Shruumz-brand Microdosing Chocolate Bars.
It is advised not to consume, sell, or serve Diamond Shruumz-Brand Microdosing Chocolate Bars. The FDA’s investigation into this matter is still ongoing.
“Microdosing” refers to the practice of taking small amounts of psychedelic drugs to enhance productivity, stimulate creativity, and improve mood. According to the website of Diamond Shruumz, the brand claims that their products provide a subtle and enjoyable experience, as well as a more creative state of mind.
However, government officials have issued warnings about the potential dangers of these products. Some consumers have experienced seizures and others have suffered from vomiting after consuming Diamond Shruumz-brand Microdosing Chocolate Bars.
The FDA has reported that individuals who fell ill after consuming these bars experienced severe symptoms such as seizures, loss of consciousness, confusion, sleepiness, agitation, abnormal heart rates, high or low blood pressure, nausea, and vomiting.

According to reports, a woman has experienced kidney damage after visiting a hair salon. Six other individuals also sought medical care due to severe reactions.
Furthermore, at least eight people have exhibited various medical symptoms, including nausea, after consuming chocolates. The FDA has stated that all eight individuals sought medical care, with six being hospitalized. Thankfully, no deaths have been reported.
On its website, Diamond Shruumz, the manufacturer of the chocolates, claims that their products are not necessarily psychedelic. Despite being marketed as offering a psilocybin-like experience, there is no presence of psilocybin or other scheduled drugs in the chocolates.

Consumers are being cautioned by officials to ensure that these products are kept away from minors, as there is a risk of children and teenagers being enticed to consume the chocolate bars.
The FDA advises that this particular product may be attractive to younger individuals, as it is marketed as a candy. Therefore, parents and caregivers should have a conversation with their children about the information provided in this advisory, and take extra precautions to prevent younger people from consuming this product.
The FDA and CDC are currently conducting investigations into these products.
