Just as AMD announced a new processor designed for handheld devices like the Steam Deck, Valve was quick to deny rumors about the Steam Deck 2

Everybody, it’s CES time. This year’s show kicked off with the release of new hardware – many of which you can’t afford, new gimmicks, flashy demos, and too many references to artificial intelligence. CES is also a time when new chips are released, and AMD brings new ones every year.

The chipmaker is pretty much the only player in the gaming handheld space right now, so there’s a lot of anticipation for the new Z2 processor and the upcoming devices. Unfortunately, despite AMD’s claims, it doesn’t actually include the new Steam Deck.

AMD has announced a new Ryzen Z2 series of APUs designed for low-power devices such as gaming palmtop computers. The Z1 and Z1 Extreme are already available in many first-generation PDAs, and several of the next generation are ready for upgrades.

As part of the CES conference call announcing the new series (via PC Gamer), AMD said the Z2-equipped handheld console “comes from multiple partners, Legion Go, ROG Ally, Valve Steam Deck.” This is obviously big news, but only because the last one was unexpected. Obviously, that’s not accurate either.

Valve engineer and Steam Deck developer Pierre-Loup Griffais was quick to clarify to Bluesky that “the Z2 Steam Deck is not and will not be.” He also added what most of us are probably thinking, namely that the slides may be intended to say “about such products, not to announce anything specific.”

Valve has long said it’s not interested in designing a new Steam Deck unless it can offer a more meaningful generational upgrade than the current model, but the company also said last year that we won’t see Steam Deck 2 until at least the end of 2025. So it’s possible – assuming the new model comes out later this year – that it will use the technology just announced, or perhaps an improved version of that technology. After all, manufacturing takes time.

Like its predecessor, the Z2 architecture contains both a CPU and a GPU on the same chip. There will be three models available: the Z2 Extreme, the standard Z2, and the Z2 Go. The two high-end options are almost identical, except that the Extreme’s GPU is more powerful because it has four additional GPU cores. The Extreme uses the RDNA 3.5 architecture, while all Z2s will not use the just-released RDNA 4.

When is President-elect Trump’s Inauguration Day? Are there any events that the public can attend?

Monday marked a significant step toward the Inauguration Day of President-elect Donald Trump, as his victory was certified by the United States Congress.

During a joint session overseen by Vice President Kamala Harris, Trump’s Electoral College victory was certified by Congress, paving the way for him to return to the Oval Office in two weeks.

Here’s what to know about Trump’s upcoming inauguration.

When is Inauguration Day?
The U.S. Constitution originally called for the president to be sworn into office on March 4, but the 20th Amendment, passed in 1933, changed that date to Jan. 20.

According to the U.S. government, the only exception to that date is if the 20th falls on a Sunday, in which case the inauguration would be moved to Jan. 21.

This year, Jan. 20 falls on a Monday, so Trump will take the oath of office on that date.

Is there a specific time the new president takes office?
Under provisions of the 20th Amendment, the terms of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris will officially end at noon Eastern Standard Time on Jan. 20, meaning that Trump and Vice President-elect J.D. Vance will officially take office at that time, whether or not they’ve had their oaths of office administered.

What is the presidential oath of office?
While the vice president takes the same oath of office as members of Congress, the president takes a slightly different oath:

“I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”

What events take place on Inauguration Day?
In addition to taking the oath of office, the incoming president traditionally delivers a public address on the steps of the United States Capitol, kicking off their administration with a detailed declaration of their priorities and intentions upon taking office.

Following the inauguration, there is a traditional parade honoring the new president, and numerous inaugural balls are held in the evening, with the new president traditionally appearing at several of the glitzy events in the capital.

Can the public attend the inauguration?
The inauguration of the new president is generally a highly attended event, with thousands gathering to hear the inaugural address and the oath of office.

The United States reports its first death from bird flu. What to Know about It

A patient with the first “severe case” of bird flu in the U.S. has died, according to a press release Monday from the Louisiana Department of Health. It’s the first human death from H5N1 in the country since concern over the current outbreak started in early 2024 when it became clear the virus was being transmitted in the U.S. between cattle.

“The patient was over the age of 65 and was reported to have underlying medical conditions. The patient contracted H5N1 after exposure to a combination of a non-commercial backyard flock and wild birds,” the Louisiana Department of Health said in a statement.

There is no evidence of human-to-human transmission of bird flu yet anywhere in the world, and health officials stress they don’t believe the deceased patient infected anyone else. But the concern over bird flu mutating in a way that would allow it to spread between humans has been present for months.

“The Department expresses its deepest condolences to the patient’s family and friends as they mourn the loss of their loved one,” the health department wrote. “Due to patient confidentiality and respect for the family, this will be the final update about the patient.”

The patient is believed to have contracted H5N1 from backyard chickens, it has proved to be a more serious form of illness in humans. Most of the human cases acquired in the U.S. during this current outbreak have been farmworkers exposed to cattle, which has created a much more mild version of the disease.

The CDC’s bird flu tracker online currently lists 10 states that have seen known human cases of bird flu. The states include California, Colorado, Iowa, Louisiana, Michigan, Missouri, Oregon, Texas, Washington, and Wisconsin. Two cases in California and Missouri have come from unknown sources where the patients didn’t work with farm animals.

There have also been additional probable cases in Washington, Arizona, California, and Delaware where the source was unknown and testing has not yet confirmed whether it was H5N1. California has the highest number of cases by far but the only lab in the state that can confirm bird flu is reportedly understaffed, according to the L.A. Times.

Countries like Finland are vaccinating farmworkers against bird flu, but the U.S. federal government has not deployed a strategy to get farmworkers vaccinated because the U.S. is a failing country without even a morsel of common sense. And with Donald Trump retaking the White House on Jan. 20, you can bet he’s going to handle any new potential pandemic like he did the last one. Which is to say, not very well.

The case in Louisiana is the first human death from bird flu in the U.S. during this current outbreak, but there was a death in Mexico back in May 2024 in a patient with no known exposure to farm animals. The case, much like the patient in Louisiana, was in a person with other underlying conditions, though it’s not clear what those may have been.

The Louisiana Department of Health released a list of things people should do to avoid getting sick, including cooking meat and poultry properly and not consuming raw milk and cheese. Bird flu can linger in raw milk for about five days, and a cat in Oregon died last month after contracting the bird flu from raw food and pets are not immune from this virus.

Do not touch sick or dead animals or their droppings and do not bring sick wild animals into your home.
Keep your pets away from sick or dead animals and their feces.
Do not eat uncooked or undercooked food. Cook poultry, eggs, and other animal products to the proper temperature and prevent cross-contamination between raw and cooked food.
Avoid uncooked food products such as unpasteurized raw milk or cheeses from animals that have a suspected or confirmed infection.
If you work on poultry or dairy farms, talk to your provider about getting your seasonal flu vaccination. It will not prevent infection with avian influenza viruses, but it can reduce the risk of coinfection with avian and flu viruses.
Do what you can to protect yourself with these measures, folks. Because there’s no guarantee we’ll be able to avoid H5N1 becoming another pandemic.

The widow of late Padres president Peter Seidler is suing her husband’s two brothers. Who will gain control of the team?

Sheel Seidler, the widow of San Diego Padres chairman Peter Seidler, sued two of his brothers Monday in an attempt to become the team’s control person.

In a complaint filed in Texas probate court, Sheel Seidler claims she and her three children have been “effectively ostracized” from the organization since Peter Seidler’s death 14 months ago. The suit names Robert and Matthew Seidler as defendants, accusing the brothers of “fiduciary breaches of trust, fraud, conversion and egregious acts of self-dealing” in their roles as trustees and executors of Peter Seidler’s estate.

The Padres announced Dec. 21 that Peter’s oldest brother, John Seidler, would become the team’s control person, which Sheel opposed and claims went against her late husband’s wishes.

In a letter to fans, Sheel called her complaint “a very last resort” to “protect my family and to continue to carry out Peter’s legacy.”

“[A]s the holder of the largest individual ownership stake in the San Diego Padres, and the sole beneficiary of the Seidler Trusts, which possesses exclusive rights with respect to control of the franchise, I am seeking to be named the control person for the Padres,” Sheel Seidler wrote as part of her letter.

A statement from a spokesperson for the Peter Seidler Trust, which controls the Padres, called Sheel’s complaint “entirely without merit.”

“Peter had a clear estate plan,” the statement continued. “The plan specifically named three of his nine siblings, with whom he had worked closely for many decades, as successor trustees of his trust and Peter himself prohibited Sheel from ever serving as trustee. The trustee is exclusively responsible for designating the San Diego Padres’ next control person.”

The statement alleged that Sheel agreed in a sworn document that she had “no right to be or to designate the control person and that she would not interfere with the designated control person. The statement also alleges that Sheel stated in May 2024 that John Seidler “would be the best control person for the Padres.”

Peter Seidler, a two-time cancer survivor, died from complications of an infection on Nov. 14, 2023, leaving behind Sheel and their children, now ages 4, 9 and 11. Eric Kutsenda, a longtime friend and business partner, was named interim control person before essentially turning over responsibilities to John Seidler 13 months later.

Sheel Seidler’s complaint claims assurances from Peter’s brothers that they would act for the benefit of Sheel and the children have “shown to be hollow” in the wake of his death.

Matthew and Robert Seidler “not only disregarded the clear terms and purpose of the will and trust instrument that Peter created, but they also have intentionally schemed to take for themselves the estate and Seidler trusts’ value rights and assets,” the complaint reads. “They have done so by misleading Sheel, engaging in conflicted transactions and egregious acts of self-dealing, and when Sheel began expressing concern and questioning their actions, they responded by demeaning and attempting to intimidate her — including by using trust assets to pay lawyers to threaten her into submission and silence.”

“They are trying to erase Peter’s vision and legacy,” another part of the complaint reads, “as well as falsely cast themselves as Peter’s true heirs.”

Under Peter Seidler, the Padres became a financial juggernaut, signing and retaining stars and placing the club alongside big spenders such as the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers. Fans rallied around the team, setting attendance records at Petco Park.

Peter Seidler, grandson of prominent former Dodgers owner Walter O’Malley, was part of a group that purchased the Padres in 2012 and assumed the role of chairman eight years later, becoming the organization’s largest stakeholder. The pinnacle of Peter’s ownership tenure arrived in October 2022 when the Padres defeated the rival Dodgers — once deemed by Peter as “the dragon up the freeway that we’re trying to slay” — in the National League Division Series, before being eliminated the following round.

In the first offseason after Seidler’s death, the Padres, who by that point had lost their local media contract through Diamond Sports Group’s bankruptcy proceedings, decreased payroll by about one-third.

Padres general manager A.J. Preller nonetheless fielded a competitive team in 2024 that won 93 games, made the playoffs for the third time in five years and almost defeated the Dodgers in the NLDS once again.

Seidler often expressed his hope to bring San Diego, a city that lost its NFL team, its first championship. Sheel Seidler believes she is the person who can help bring that dream to fruition.

“While the children and I feel Peter’s absence every day, our collective devotion to this team is stronger than ever,” Sheel Seidler wrote. “Peter and I always planned, one day, to leave the team to the children. That remains my steadfast commitment. In the meantime, it is my intention to build upon the many recent successes, investing in both the short-term and long-term future of the franchise, and ensuring our dream of multiple championships is fulfilled.”

John Seidler’s appointment as control person is still pending the approval of three-quarters of MLB’s owners. A vote hasn’t been scheduled but could occur as early as the upcoming owners meetings in February.

Sheel Seidler’s complaint alleges that she and her three children are not welcomed at the ownership suite during games and that Robert and Matthew Seidler have gone as far as to “inform Padres employees that Sheel is not an owner of the team, and that her presence and input are not welcome in interacting with free agents and current players.”

Sheel Seidler also claims to have been excluded from charitable events meant to mark Peter Seidler’s legacy.

The complaint includes what is said to be a handwritten note from Peter Seidler, listing the priorities for control person in the event of his death, with Sheel and the children at the top.

Sheel Seidler and the children own approximately one-quarter of the Padres, fulfilling MLB’s requirement of at least a 15% stake to qualify as a control person. But Matthew and Robert Seidler have “frozen Sheel out,” according to the complaint, and “deprived her of the benefits of being the largest beneficial owner of the baseball team, while themselves enjoying the benefits.”

The statement from the Seidler trust lauded John Seidler as someone who “has the right experience and shares Peter’s vision for the Padres: ensure there is a consistently competitive team on the field and a best-in-class fan experience, with the goal of bringing championship-caliber baseball to San Diego.”

Report: Zendaya and Tom Holland are really engaged after ring sparks rumors at Golden Globes

Tom Holland and Zendaya are headed down the aisle.

TMZ confirmed via sources on Monday morning that the longtime couple is engaged, this after Zendaya stepped out at Sunday night’s Golden Globes wearing a diamond sparkler on her ring finger. While she always turns heads on red carpets, the choice of accessory instantly fed the rumor mill within minutes of her touching down outside the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills. Eagle-eyed fans and fashion insiders noted that the bling was not Bulgari, which she is contractually obligated to wear as a longtime ambassador of the luxury house.

Then during the Globes, the Instagram account for Max, home to her series Euphoria for which she has won back to back Emmy Awards, seemingly confirmed the news with a post showing off the ring with a clip from the show. “I have never, ever been happier,” read the caption. Reps for both stars have not returned comment to The Hollywood Reporter, not surprising since Holland and Zendaya have long kept their personal lives as private as possible considering their global stardom.

Per TMZ, the proposal was also low-key and private. Sources told the outlet that Holland proposed at some point between the Christmas and New Year’s holidays, “dropping to one knee in a very intimate setting in one of Zendaya’s family homes in the United States.” It was a “just a sweet moment” between the pair and former Spider-Man co-stars, TMZ added. They met and reportedly fell in love while playing Peter Parker and MJ, respectively, in the blockbuster franchise Spider-Man.

On the heels of that report, People reported that Holland had been “keen” to propose for a while. “He’s always been crazy about her. He always knew she was the one. They have something very special,” a source told People, adding that they are in no rush to plan a ceremony. “They will just enjoy things for now and won’t rush a wedding. They are both busy with work projects.”

It was recently announced that Holland and Zendaya have both joined the cast of Christopher Nolan’s upcoming epic The Odyssey alongside Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Matt Damon, Charlize Theron and Lupita Nyong’o. Universal has slated a 2026 release date for the star-packed film.

Holland shed some light on their relationship and red carpet appearances in a cover profile published by Men’s Health just days ago. The Marvel superstar said he doesn’t typically walk red carpets with her for projects or award shows where she’s nominated “because it’s not my moment, it’s her moment, and if we go together, it’s about us.”

Sutton, who split from husband Ted Griffin after 10 years of marriage, confirmed her relationship with Hugh Jackman on date night

Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster have finally confirmed their relationship after over a year of rumors swirling around about them.

The 56-year-old Deadpool & Wolverine actor and the 49-year-old Tony-winning Broadway actress were spotted holding hands while taking a romantic stroll to dinner on Monday night (January 6) in Santa Monica, Calif.

The dinner date comes just two days after Hugh was spotted in the audience at Sutton‘s performance of the musical Once Upon a Mattress on Saturday night in Los Angeles.

People has published the exclusive photos of the new couple looking so happy together. Hugh was dressed in a dark jacket, a gray shirt, and white jeans while Sutton wore a brown coat over an olive-colored dress.

Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster
If you didn’t know, Hugh and Sutton worked together on the Broadway musical The Music Man. The production was set to open in 2020, but then was delayed because of the pandemic. It began performances in December 2021 and then closed in January 2023 after a massively successful run.

Hugh announced his separation from wife Deborra-Lee Furness in September 2023 and rumors about his relationship with Sutton started swirling just months later, though she seemingly shot down the reports by sharing a family photo at the time.

Sutton then filed for divorce from her husband Ted Griffin in October 2024 after 10 years of marriage.

Weeks later, one of Deborra-Lee‘s friends spoke out to claim that the rumors of Hugh and Sutton‘s affair were “on point.”

Why did Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau resign? Who can replace it? What’s next for Canada?

Canadian Prime Minster Justin Trudeau announced his resignation on Monday, January 6, 2025, in a shocking announcement. As viewers around the world tuned into his live press conference, Trudeau opened up about his decision to step down. So, does this mean the 53-year-old politician is no longer the country’s prime minister? Find out what Trudeau’s resignation means and why he chose to do it.

Is Justin Trudeau Still Canada’s Prime Minister?
Trudeau is still Canada’s prime minister until a new leader is selected, he noted during his press conference.

“I intend to resign as party leader, as prime minister, after the party selects its new leader,” he pointed out. “Every morning I’ve woken up as prime minister, I have been inspired by the resilience, generosity and the determination of Canadians. I have fought for this country, for you.”

Trudeau further recalled Canada’s accomplishments during his premiership, noting that they “rallied to support each other through the pandemic … to stand strong with Ukraine, and our democracy, to fight climate change, and to get our economy ready for the future,” adding that the nation is “at a critical moment in the world.”

“If I have one regret, particularly as we approach this election — well, probably many regrets that I will think of. But I do wish we’d been able to change the way we elect our governments in this country so that people could simply choose a second choice, or a third choice on the same ballot,” the PM added in his speech.

Why Did Trudeau Resign?
Trudeau resigned at a critical moment, as he has recently faced criticism over his leadership. The Liberal Party leader explained that he is stepping down “due to internal battles” within the country’s party.

“Parliament has been paralyzed for months after what has been the longest session of a minority parliament in Canadian history,” Trudeau elaborated. “This morning, I advised the Governor General that we need a new session of parliament. She has granted this request, and the House will now be prorogued until March 24.

Where Is Trudeau Going?
Trudeau did not reveal what he intends to do next after stepping down as prime minister.

Who Could Replace Trudeau as Prime Minister?
The Liberal Party of Canada must choose a new PM. Multiple members of the party have been cited as potential replacements of Trudeau. However, none of them has confirmed the rumors. Among the top candidates for Trudeau’s replacement include Former Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland, Anita Anand, Dominic LeBlanc and Mark Carney, per BBC.

Enron announced a “breakthrough” product, the Enron Egg, purportedly a miniature nuclear reactor

Enron has unveiled a new product a month after the infamous and defunct company was resurrected − apparently for fun − by one of the guys behind the satirical “Birds Aren’t Real” conspiracy theory.

The parody company announced the “historic reveal” of the Enron Egg, “the world’s first at-home nuclear reactor,” in an X post on Monday.

Enron re-entered the public consciousness in early December with the launch of Enron.com, two decades after the American energy company was sullied by fraud and some of its top executives were sent to prison. The website was launched on the 23rd anniversary of the company’s bankruptcy filing along with a press release and an official-looking promo video.

The materials, which at first glance seemed to signal a rebranding, instead ended up being an elaborate joke. Not only was Connor Gaydos of “Birds Aren’t Real” fame involved, but the company’s own terms and conditions say the website is “protected parody” for “entertainment purposes only.”

In a five-minute clip, Gaydos, playing an Enron CEO, claimed the Enron egg was going to revolutionize the power industry, the independence industry and the freedom industry. Gaydos also says Enron has partnered with FEMA to provide nuclear eggs to rapid response teams all over the world.

“Ladies and gentlemen, we have harnessed the power of the atom,” Gaydos said. “Introducing the Enron Egg, the world’s first micro-nuclear reactor for residential suburban use.” The little device, according to Gaydos, has the ability to power a home for 10 continuous years.

‘Birds aren’t real’ guy purchased Enron trademark in 2020
Public documents first found by CNN show that the Arkansas-based company behind the Enron trademark purchase is owned by Connor Gaydos, who, along with Peter McIndoe, created the mock “Birds Aren’t Real” conspiracy theory.

The joke conspiracy is meant to satirize the spread of misinformation by proliferating the false idea that the U.S. government wiped out birds and replaced the animals with drones to spy on Americans.

Gaydos’ LLC, The College Company, bought the Enron trademark in 2020 for $275, the documents show. The website’s terms list the Enron relaunch as “performance art.”

What is the Enron egg?

The Enron Egg is a “compact nuclear reactor that uses Uranium-Zirconium Hydride (U-ZrH) fuel rods to generate heat through nuclear fission,” according to the Enron website. “This heat is transferred via a 3D-printed Inconel heat exchanger, powering a turbine to generate electricity. A closed-loop cooling system ensures safe operation without environmental contamination.”

No price was listed for the Enron Egg, but the company says it is “significantly more affordable than traditional energy systems.” Interested parties may preorder the Enron Egg by signing up for Enron’s email newsletter.

What was Enron?
Enron was a Houston, Texas-based energy, commodities, and services company. In 2001, Enron collapsed in a market-shaking bankruptcy amid revelations that the company had grossly overstated its earnings. The financial implosion victimized tens of thousands of employees and investors.

Some got prison sentences, including CEO Jeffrey Skilling and CFO Andrew Fastow.

Kenneth Lay, Enron’s former chairman, died of a heart attack in 2006, one month after his career ended with a criminal conviction for lying to investors about the company’s finances.
