Preetismita Bhoi: 15-year-old Indian weightlifter smashes world record for gold at World Youth Championships

Indian weightlifter Preetismita Bhoi, at just 15 years old, made headlines by breaking the world record in the clean and jerk category at the IWF World Youth Championships. Competing in the women’s 40kg category, Bhoi lifted an impressive 76kg, surpassing the previous record of 75kg. Her snatch lift of 57kg brought her total effort to 133kg, just 2kg short of the youth world standard. This outstanding performance earned Bhoi a well-deserved gold medal.

The success continued for India as Jyoshna Sabar secured the silver medal with a total lift of 125kg (56kg+69kg), while Fatma Kolcak from Turkey took home the bronze with a total of 120kg (55kg+65kg). The Indian weightlifting team had even more reason to celebrate, with two additional athletes also reaching the podium.
Payal won a silver medal in the women’s 45kg event by lifting a total of 147kg (65kg+82kg). However, she was outshined by Colombian Lawren Estrada, who secured her second world title with a total lift of 151kg (67kg+84kg).

In the men’s 49kg event, Babulal Hembrom became the fourth Indian lifter to earn a spot on the podium. He clinched the bronze medal with a total lift of 193kg (86kg+107kg).
