The 49ers’ Christian McCaffery left the game against the Bills with a non-contact knee injury that left fans in disbelief

A fun weekend of football capped off with a “Sunday Night Football” battle between the reeling San Francisco 49ers and the Buffalo Bills in a snow-filled Highmark Stadium.

After dealing with Achilles tendinitis for a majority of the season, running back Christian McCaffrey made his season debut for the 49ers on Nov. 10 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

However, against the Bills, the fourth game since his return, the star running back suffered another leg injury that forced him to leave the game.

Just under four minutes into the second quarter, McCaffrey received the ball on a pitch. After running a couple of yards, the former Stanford star went down on his own with no Buffalo defender around him.

A slow-motion video of the incident was posted online, and in the video, one can see his left leg buckle awkwardly before he decided to hit the turf.

NFL fans were left concerned for the star, especially after dealing with a previous injury that kept him out for the 49ers’ first eight games. They took to social media to leave their thoughts.

“Torn Achilles u can see it pop,” one fan assumed.

“His left leg exploded,” added another.

“That looks like it exploded,” chimed in a third.

“That left calf doesn’t look good smh,” wrote a fourth.

“Did he just tear his achilles??” asked a fifth.

“And that might be McCaffrey’s season,” commented a sixth.

Prior to the injury, McCaffrey was having a solid night against the Bills’ defense. He had tallied seven carries for 53 yards and two catches for another 14 yards.

Hopefully, the injury is not as serious as many fans seem to think it is, as McCaffrey has been one of the more exciting players in the league since he was drafted by the Carolina Panthers in 2017 and would certainly be missed by fans.

If it is, in fact, a season-ender, this would be a major blow to the 5-6 49ers, who had championship aspirations at the start of the season.
