Australia’s Mining And Energy Union and Anglo American have agreed to extend pay for workers at the Grosvenor mine until the end of August. The mine was closed earlier this week due to an underground fire. In a joint statement with a regional council and several unions, Anglo American confirmed the payment extension for all full-time employees and embedded contractors at the mine. The fire at the Grosvenor steelmaking coal mine in Queensland, Australia, occurred last weekend, causing the suspension of operations. The damage assessment and the reopening of the mine could take several months, raising concerns among investors about the impact on Anglo American’s coal portfolio sale plan.
