Us President-elect Donald Trump announced the nomination of Linda McMahon as Secretary of education, she stressed the importance of technical and vocational education, has criticized the devaluation of college degrees in the United States today, unable to meet the needs of enterprises.
The political news website Politico noted that McMahon, 76, rose to fame for building World Wrestling Entertainment into a multibillion-dollar business and then served as head of the Small Business Administration during Trump’s first term. She will remain an important figure in Trump’s inner circle after he leaves office in 2021.
Linda McMahon, a former member of the Connecticut State Board of Education, resigned in 2010 about a year after losing her Senate bid. She graduated from East Carolina University with a bachelor’s degree in French and holds a teaching qualification in French. While her education experience is limited, she is the chair of the board of the America First Policy Institute, a think tank that gathers other Trump insiders, so her Senate confirmation is likely to sail through.
Ma Ma Hong has criticized the requirement for college degrees in some jobs, saying that “reducing over-reliance on college degrees can bring double benefits to workers and businesses.” She believes that higher education is not meeting the needs of enterprises for skilled workers, so she advocates increasing TVC.
In terms of K-12 education policy, Maima Hong supports “school choice” and emphasizes the importance of parents’ involvement in their children’s education on social platforms. School choice policies, she argues, “would level the playing field by breaking down the barriers of economic disadvantage and giving parents control over their children’s education.” K-12 education refers to the basic education system from Kindergarten (K) to 12th grade, covering the period of compulsory education in the United States and many other countries.
In addition, she is critical of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) measures the Biden administration is trying to implement in apprenticeship programs. “We should make sure we have DEI,” she said in March, “but imposing these kinds of mandates in the apprenticeship program would undermine opportunities for many businesses to train new people.”
